Rajasthan dowry death case: Neha Nayak’s husband and four in-laws booked – Rajasthan News
A married woman allegedly died by suicide after hanging herself at her residence in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. Following a complaint by her family, police have registered a dowry death case against five members of her in-laws’ family and launched an investigation.
According to police, the deceased, Neha alias Beera Nayak, a resident of Khandewat in Tonk district, was married to Sanjay Nayak, son of Om Nayak, on April 22, 2023. Her family alleged that they had provided dowry and household items according to their financial capacity at the time of the marriage.
Relatives claimed that about a year after the wedding, and following the birth of the couple’s daughter, Neha’s husband allegedly began demanding a Splendor motorcycle and a Shift car as additional dowry. They alleged that she was subjected to pressure and harassment over the demands.
Family members said Neha’s father had passed away in 2005 and the family has been surviving under difficult financial circumstances. They further alleged that when the dowry demands were not met, her husband started seeking a divorce. Although Neha’s family was willing to proceed with the separation, no formal action was taken by the husband.
According to the complaint, Neha called her brother on the night of May 30 and asked him to take her away from her matrimonial home. He assured her that he would come the following morning. However, on the morning of May 31, Neha’s father-in-law reportedly informed her relatives that she was unwell and asked them to come to the district hospital.
When family members reached the hospital, they found Neha dead. Her in-laws had allegedly taken her down from the hanging position and rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police conducted a post-mortem examination and handed over the body to the deceased’s family. Based on a complaint filed by Neha’s brother Sanjay, a case of dowry death has been registered against her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.
Women’s Police Station SHO Bhojaram said the case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
