Jharkhand: Dhanbad woman climbs mobile tower, demands arrested lover’s release

A young woman in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad climbed a mobile tower demanding the release of her lover from police custody, triggering a high-voltage drama that continued for nearly one-and-a-half hours.

The woman, identified as Devanti Kumari from Shahriya, climbed the tower after police arrested the man she was reportedly in a relationship with.

According to local residents, the man is married and police from Nimiaghat police station arrested him in connection with a case. Upset over his arrest, Devanti Kumari climbed the mobile tower and refused to come down despite repeated requests from police personnel and locals.

The woman demanded the immediate release of her lover and insisted that police arrange her marriage with him. A large crowd gathered at the spot as the drama unfolded, while police and villagers continued efforts to convince her to climb down safely.

The incident created panic in the area, but police managed to avert a major mishap through timely intervention.

Village head Ahmad Ali said the woman remained on the tower for a long time and eventually climbed down after police and villagers jointly convinced her. He said the matter appeared to be linked to a love affair.

Police station in-charge Ankit Kumar Sinha said a police team reached the spot after assessing the situation and safely brought the woman down after prolonged counselling and persuasion.

After she climbed down following hours of drama, police took her to the police station. Officials informed her family members and asked them to come to the station. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
