Ex-BJP MLA’s son accused of rape on pretext of marriage in Karnataka

Prateek Chauhan, son of former Karnataka minister and BJP MLA Prabhu Chauhan, has been accused of repeated rape, criminal intimidation, and assault after a woman filed a complaint at the Bidar Women’s Police Station.

According to the complaint, the woman got engaged to Prateek Chauhan on December 25, 2023. She alleged that following the engagement, Prateek continuously exploited her sexually under the promise of marriage. The woman claimed he raped her multiple times at private hotels in Bengaluru, Latur (Maharashtra), and Shirdi.

The woman further alleged that whenever she refused to participate in sexual acts, Prateek threatened to call off the wedding. She said that he took her to Latur on at least three separate occasions and forced himself on her each time.

The matter escalated on July 5, 2025, when the woman and her family visited his residence to finalise the wedding date. They were allegedly turned away with the words, “We won’t marry your daughter. Do whatever you want.”

Following her complaint, an FIR has been registered against Prateek Chauhan by the police.
