UP woman catches husband with men on hidden cam; alleges threats, dowry demand
A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri has accused her husband of dowry harassment, mental and physical abuse, and engaging in “unnatural relations” with other men, according to a First Information Report registered at police station.
As per the FIR registered on April 29, 2026, police booked the accused under Sections 85 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
The complainant, identified as Rupali Gupta, said that she married Shivam Gupta, a resident of Etah district, on February 19, 2024, in a Hindu ceremony in Mainpuri. She alleged that her family spent nearly Rs 1 crore on the wedding, including cash, jewellery, and other items, but her husband remained dissatisfied and continued to demand an additional Rs 50 lakh as dowry.
According to the FIR, Shivam Gupta holds an MTech degree and works as an executive engineer in Mumbai, earning around Rs 2.5 lakh per month. He used to visit home approximately every 15 days.
The woman alleged that after marriage, her husband subjected her to continuous mental and physical harassment over dowry demands. She also claimed that he showed disinterest in maintaining physical relations with her, which raised suspicion about his behaviour.
To verify her suspicions, she installed hidden cameras in their rented flat. The FIR says that on June 21, 2025, she allegedly discovered through the footage that her husband invited men to the house and engaged in objectionable and “unnatural” acts with them. She claimed that watching these videos caused her severe mental trauma.
The complainant further alleged that when she confronted her husband and said she would inform his family, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone. She stated that fear prevented her from immediately filing a complaint.
She also alleged that when she initially approached the police station, her complaint was not registered. She later submitted a written complaint to senior officials, following which the FIR was registered.
Police have taken up the investigation and assigned the case to a sub-inspector for further probe. Authorities said they are examining the evidence, including the alleged video footage, and will proceed with legal action based on the findings.
