Poll Duty: Teacher skips poll duty, says arrange my marriage first | India News
Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, 35, teaches Sanskrit at Mahudar Higher Secondary School in Amarpatan of Satna district, around 450km from Bhopal. Like other teachers, he got orders to report for poll duty, and a training was organised on October 16-17.He bunked the class.
On October 27, a showcause notice was issued to him to explain why he should not be suspended for negligence in a work of national importance.
In his reply, the teacher went on a rant over his forced bachelorhood in middle age. His letter, dated October 31, is titled, ‘Point To Point Reply’.
The teacher in question isn’t just at fault for skipping poll duty. He is talking about taking dowry, which is a social evil & banned. He’s been rightly suspended.
The very first ‘point’ says: “My entire life is being spent without a wife, all my nights are wasted. First get me married.” In the other ‘points’, he demands Rs 3.5 lakh in dowry, “in cash or account payment”, and loan sanction for a flat in “Singrauli tower or Samdariya in Rewa district”. Mishra rounded off his reply with: “What to do? I have no words, you are an ocean of knowledge.”
The district administration was not amused. Satna collector Anurag Verma suspended him on November 2.
Mishra’ couldn’t be contacted as he doesn’t use a phone, but a colleague said that he has been under stress for a couple of years. “Otherwise who writes such a bizarre letter, that too in response to a showcause notice? He stopped using his mobile phone a year ago,” he said.
