Man mistakes his unconscious wife as dead after slapping her, kills himself | Mumbai News


A 22-year-old man in Wadala area allegedy died by suicide after he mistook his wife, who had lost consciousness after he slapped her during a fight, dead. Police have identified the deceased as Ranjeet Rajesh Devendra, a delivery agent with a courier company.

According to police, Devendra and his wife Abhirami (20) were in a relationship and had a court marriage. The two were living alone in Ambedkar Nagar in Wadala TT area. Devendra’s parent lived nearby.

Police said the couple had some personal dispute and were going through a rough patch since the past few months. Devendra was under stress, said police.

According to police, the couple was having a fight over the same issue on Sunday evening. Later, the argument snowballed and Devendra slapped his wife. She fell down and did not get up for long, said police.

When Abhirami gained consciousness, she saw Devendra hanging from the ceiling. She informed her in-laws and Devendra was rushed to Sion hospital, where he was declared dead, said police. “The wife said in her statement that after Devendra slapped her, she was unconscious. When she gained consciousness, she saw her husband hanging,” said senior inspector Dyaneshwar Argade from Wadala TT police station.

“Prima facie, we have not observed any foul play in the incident. We have registered an accidental death report and investigating the matter,” Argade said.
