Delhi Police has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly robbing women at gunpoint after contacting them through a matrimonial website and asking them to meet him, officers said.
Police identified the accused as Hasan Khan, a resident of Nihal Vihar. On August 11, police said they received information that Khan would meet an acquaintance at night to search for a new hideout, and to possibly commit more crimes.
Police laid a trap near the U-turn towards Rohini and surrounded Khan as soon as he reached the spot around 11.40 pm. Police said Khan pulled out his pistol and tried to fire at the police team but was overpowered and subsequently arrested.
Special CP (Special Cell) H G S Dhaliwal said the accused is a small-scale health supplement supplier who is pursuing his MBA in finance. “His father is a cancer patient and mother a housewife…,” he added.
Police said Khan was married but later got divorced, adding he has a seven-year-old son.
In the present case, police said the accused contacted the victim woman, aged 29, through a matrimonial website using a fake name ‘Riyasat Khan’.
